Education Courses for NAMI members and the public:

Support Groups:

  • Caring & Sharing- NAMI support groups available through all of our affiliates to provide direct support for family, friends and loved ones affected by mental illness. Check with your local affiliate for meeting times and places, or click here for the monthly calendar of meetings.
  • NAMI C.A.R.E.- a peer based, mutual support group program for individuals facing the challenges of recovering from any mental illness. Please click here for the brochure.

For Professionals and Organizations:

  • Provider Training- The NAMI Provider Education Program is a 10-week course that presents a penetrating, subjective view of family and consumer experiences with serious mental illness to line staff at public agencies who work directly with people with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Provider Education helps staff at provider agencies understand the hardships that families and consumers endure, while helping them appreciate the courage and persistence it takes to find ways to reconstruct lives. Contact the state office for details.
  • Forensics & the Criminal Justice System- NAMI PA works with agencies to tailor trainings to their needs, both in content and length of program.
    • The PA Forensics Interagency Task Force brings together statewide community organizations, law enforcement and governmental agencies responsible for and interested in forensic issues and programs on mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse issues.
    • Mental Health Courts are proliferating around the country. There are currently at least 80 in existence, with more in the planning stage.
    • Federal and State Legislation empowers communities to implement forensics programs.
    • Criminal Justice Training for professionals in the field is offered by NAMI Pennsylvania.
