The NAMI Pennsylvania 2008 Annual Conference Planning Committee is seeking proposals from individuals who wish to present sessions at this year’s event.

The conference will contain a broad range of educational workshops. Priorities for inclusion in the conference are issues that have specific appeal to families, consumers and providers.

Workshop Composition
Attendees at the NAMI annual conference include individuals with mental illness, family members and loved ones, and treatment and care providers. Workshop content should be geared to one or all of these groups. Workshops should be 1.25 hours in length. All workshops should leave ample time for interaction between presenter(s) and attendees. An abstract of the workshop should be submitted along with this application. Each presenter is asked to prepare handout materials that supplement the presentation.

Please indicate on the application form your availability for the various workshop time slots.

Presenters are welcome to submit more than one proposal. Please complete a separate form for each proposal submitted.

Educational Objectives
At least three educational objectives must be submitted for each presentation. These are required by the accrediting organizations, and they also assure that NAMI Pennsylvania maintains a high standard of educational programs.

Educational objectives are statements that communicate instructional content. They reflect the important intended outcomes of the workshop presentation. Conference attendees to select appropriate sessions to attend may also use these objectives. The objectives should clearly state how the attendee could use new knowledge at the conclusion of the workshop. Educational objectives should be specific, clear, capable of being measured, concise, and realistic for the learning time and level of instruction. When formulating objectives, be careful to use words that reflect action, such as "adapt, apply, compute, define, describe, develop, document, implement, organize, perform, prepare, recognize, select, summarize and use." Also, be careful to avoid words such as "learn, know, understand and perceive."

Presenter Expense Guidelines
It is the goal of NAMI Pennsylvania to offer a first-rate educational conference at an affordable rate for all of our attendees. Therefore, we have a limited budget to offset the costs of our presenters. We truly value your commitment to consumer, family and provider education, and cannot compensate you.

Audio-Visual Requests
Please indicate on your application form any audio-visual requests you may have. Each room will be equipped with a flip chart and markers. Under no conditions will NAMI Pennsylvania provide laptops for workshop presentations. Any laptops used must be compatible with computer projectors provided for use (usually PCs, not MACs). Also, bear in mind that you will be responsible for the setting up and running any equipment you use for your presentation.

Notification and Acceptance
State Office will provide notification of the decisions regarding workshop selections. Notification will include the specific date and time of the workshop session.
